My Halloween Night

Chun Li, samui desu ka?

Happy belated Halloween, everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your weekends of fun and terror. I wanted to share with you my Halloween experience from this past weekend. It was a pretty epic night, and definitely a story to tell.

Because Halloween falls on a Sunday, many of us including myself knew that we had to celebrate it on Saturday night to ensure that we get the most out of it. Before the night began, I told myself that this was going to be an all-nighter... where I stay out all night and take the first train back home before proceeding to knock out.

My costume this year? Nerdy kid (lol)

A few of us decided that we would have dinner, stop by Waterr (a bar of choice for many ALTs in Sendai), and head off to another bar and then possibly clubbing.

First, we ate dinner at this really amazing gyoza place, that ended up being a Chinese restaurant as well. The best part of dinner was how ridiculously cheap the food was compared to other places in Japan. I ordered a HK Seafood Pan-Fried Noodle and Gyoza, and total was barely ¥800 for my order! Hella good deal, and I was full! I am definitely planning on returning to have a small reminder of food back home.

Next, we walked over to Waterr to try and say 'Hi' to our friends there. Unfortunately, the bouncer did not let my friends without costumes in without a fee. We were willing to oblige, but the way she came about it was so rude and disrespectful that we decided to simply leave. We walked down Ichibancho (a large area of downtown Sendai) heading to a bar that one of my friend's recommended that had a ¥1000 nomihodai, with ¥800 table charge. Not bad in our minds...

On our way there, we bumped into these two Japanese girls that at first, gravitated toward a member of our group because of our foreign-ness. Initially we thought they knew some of us, but they were simply two tipsy Japanese girls looking for a good time. So they asked if they could join us for our nomi, and we agreed. Why not right?

At the bar, we had our two hours of nomi with plenty of food. They even offered us karaoke at some points! My friend Pamela created an amazing new drink called the "Tijuana Donkey Show," which consists of tequila, kahlua, and orange juice. It sounds nasty, but it was actually one of the best drinks of the night! So we had our fun- got tipsy, and took photos and all that jazz... and by this point it was 1AM. When our bill came out, we were in for something...

Apparently each person was charged ¥2500 for the nomi. We asked the Japanese girls to check why it was so high, because we thought it was going to be ¥1800. Apparently they issued us a "hidden" 10% service charge, and apparently some of the food wasn't included, even though clearly they said one dish per person... or so we thought. Hey, we had Japanese people with us! They began to argue with the management, asking if we as foreigners could pay the cheaper amount that we anticipated since we didn't know. The management refused, and then one of the girls in her tipsy state, laid a hand on her shoulder... nicely.

BAM! All hell breaks loose. The waitress goes ape-shit, and calls the cops.

The po-po arrive within give minutes, and the girls begin to argue in Japanese about how it was not sexual assault. I agree... it was only a hand on a shoulder, but I guess the management wasn't too friendly that night to argue about prices. While they worked that out, we eventually had to deal with the costs, so we decided to just pay up and leave while the Japanese girls argued. This ordeal lasted for a good thirty minutes, all in which we explained that we did not want any trouble and didn't want to lose our jobs.

Luckily, we managed to escape, even though we couldn't get the fees lowered. When we left, we were so relieved that we went straight to clubbing at Yankee Court, lol. For the next hour, we danced to US Top 40 and oldies, which I LOVED. My kind of clubbing music for sure. It was the first time I had gone clubbing since ageHa in Tokyo last year, too.

By 4AM, most of us were tired so we ventured off into Sendai waiting for the trains to open. Once they did, I hopped on board, got home, and slept.

A great Halloween night for sure. I left out many details, but it was more intense. Hope your night was just as exciting!

More blogs to come. Thanks for reading.
